I couldn’t think of a more activity filled city (perhaps New York), to have an array of wonderful date options during this fun period! So it’s time to ditch the conventional date plans and get creative with 7 of these awesome date ideas for the London winter.
And don’t worry, these activities are just as enjoyable and special when single and shared with a friend (or two) too!
Take a sunset stroll along the Thames from Westminster to London Bridge
The Thames is one of the world’s most famous rivers and whilst the water isn’t anything to admire, the plethora of attractions on either side of its banks are. From Westminster stroll across from the big boy Ben and House of Parliament over to the London Eye, walk past the Tate Modern museum, millennium bridge, St Paul’s dome and Tower Bridge. An iconic London walk to remember. Simple and satisfying with plenty of time for conversation.
Have some pseudo intellectual banter walking through London’s Natural History Museum
Giant dinosaur fossils and real life stuffed animals + mood lighting is the perfect place to be pseudointellectual and gawk at one of the largest collections of specimens and information in the world. My favourite is the entrance hall feature where they usually have a giant skeleton of sorts to gawk at amidst the incredible foyer architecture!
Lesser known however, is that on the last friday of every month, this wonderful museum is open until 10pm, with free admission, food, drinks and even some smooth as live jazz.
Snuggle up on some comfy couches at the Electric Cinema
Forget your standard movie theatres, London’s branches of the Electric Cinema (either Portobello Rd in Notting Hill or Shoreditch) provides the perfect excuse to get cosy with a significant other and take your movie experience to a whole new retro level.
Revisit your childhood at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland
Ferris wheels, merry go rounds, ice skating…this is the perfect place for a date and to get play competitive with your significant other amidst the romantic atmosphere of the Winter Wonderland. Whilst I basically look like a newborn giraffe when on ice, skating can be a great excuse to hold hands, have a laugh and enjoy the winter spirit. Unleach your inner child and have a blast.
Get up close mentally doing an Escape Room
It’s not as scary as it sounds, and I promise it to be a tonne of fun! Get your minds closer than ever trying to decipher your way out of a scenario. Problem solving, team work, depending on the room (there are various themes for e.g. Hogwarts themed, Egyptian, etc) you will be using both your minds and hands to get yourself out before the clock strikes 60 minutes!
Some options:
- Time Run
- Enigma Quests (they have a Hogwarts themed escape room as an option)
- Escape Plan (WW2 themed)
Sip on cocktails at Once Upon a WigWam at Queen of Hoxton
There are several bars around London with sound cocktails to boot. But Queen of Hoxton transforms its rooftop into the super neat ‘Once upon a Wigwam’. Cosy as, enter through the giant keyhole entrance have a cheeky ‘Egg Snog’ cocktail in the snug fairytale esque setting that is home to a ginger bread house inspired bar (which you can literally bite into!).
Have dinner in the dark
No I am not talking about instigating a full blown blackout just to have an excuse to light the candles..remember the film About Time and the super cute first encounter between the main love birds Tim & Mary? This culinary experience of dining in the dark is legit and doable at Dans Le Noir and you can have an eclectic first date chatting the night away in complete darkness, heightened senses galore. A gastronomical feast to accompany! And if all goes well, first date etiquette and pretence aside, you can arrange date numero 2 where you can actually see them!
